Get Tab Guard running.

Tab Guard works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac after both Safari extensions are turned on.

iPhone and iPad setup

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions.
  2. Open Tab Guard Controls, turn on Allow Extension, then choose All Websites under Website Access.
  3. Open Tab Guard and turn on Allow Extension.
  4. Return to the Tab Guard app and confirm that Controls is on.

Mac setup

  1. Open Safari and choose Safari → Settings → Extensions from the menu bar.
  2. Turn on Tab Guard Controls and allow it on all websites.
  3. Turn on Tab Guard.
  4. Return to the Tab Guard app; its setup card shows the live status of both extensions.

Add sites to guard

Open Tab Guard and add the hostname patterns where you want new tabs prevented.

How rules work

Patterns compare hostnames only. They are case-insensitive. * is the only wildcard and matches any number of hostname characters. Patterns without * match an exact hostname. Whitelist rules take priority over blacklist rules.
